How we protect children’s rights with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
UNCRC - GOLD SUCCESS
Thanks to the fantastic efforts of our pupils, staff and supporters, Bainsford Primary is now a UNCRC Gold Rights Respecting School. We are very proud to put Children’s Rights at the heart of what we do and to see the recognition of our pupils’ hard work is very rewarding. Well done to everyone involved....but, we're not done.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is the most complete statement of children’s right ever produced. It has been more widely ratified than any other global human rights treaty. In its 54 articles, it sets out our responsibilities to make sure that all children enjoy their rights.
It is now recognised that UNCRC is at the heart of what we do at Bainsford. It has helped us us to bring together all the things we do to protect our children and develop their potential. At the end of 2023, we were awarded the UNCRC Silver award. That recognises all the fantastic effort that has gone into supporting our children. That support has come from our staff and our wider community and that's brilliant.
We are very pleased with our progress but, we want to do more and that is why we are Upholding our Gold Status. That’s the next step. We are aiming high.
Within the school UNCRC is integrated into everything that we do. We are trying to make Children’s Rights the cornerstone of our approach. It's about ensuring that our children are treated with dignity at all times. There are three aspects to this:
- We teach and learn about children’s right. This happens for the whole school community through lessons, assemblies and displays. We teach the children about their rights and explore what that means. As adults we learn about those rights and bring them to life for the children in our care.
- We teach and learn through children’s rights: the adults in our school community model rights respecting behaviours. We model the behaviours and values consistent with being a rights respecting school. Our approach is child centred and those values are embedded in our school ethos.
- We teach and learn for children’s rights. We empower our children exercise their rights and to become responsible, rights respecting citizens.
We are now working towards our Upholding our Gold Award. We’ll keep you up to date on how that goes. We’ll need your help to succeed so, watch this space.
